Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
LIHEAP is designed to provide financial assistance to people who are elderly (60+), disabled or in low-income households. These funds help offset a portion of the energy costs used to heat and cool the home. Funds are not distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, they are awarded based on household vulnerability—meaning those with the greatest need will be prioritized. Assistance will be provided as funds become available throughout the year.
ALL applicants will be REQUIRED to have an e-mail address in order to receive assistance. This is how the applicant will receive updates concerning the status of the application.
Assistance amounts have changed for the 2025-2026 program year. The amount will range from $174 to $750, depending on household energy burden.
Applicants are eligible to receive a one-time payment sent directly to your utility company or fuel provider from either of the following services under the LIHEAP program:
- Crisis assistance is provided to households having an official shut off notice or who are out of fuel and meet the other criteria listed for assistance.
- Regular assistance is provided to those who do not meet the criteria for crisis assistance.
In addition to general eligibility requirements, applicants must have at minimum 1 month of service and be responsible for paying their own energy costs. Applicants with a remaining balance from the prior program year must have a current bill that will fully use the remaining funds in order to be eligible to apply.
